How to buy nail polish for less

Nail polish is bought by the bottle and worn by the coat, so cost per ml is the honest figure — and a salon-brand bottle can cost 8× a drugstore one that lasts just as long on the nail.

  • A base and top coat do more for wear than an expensive colour. The cheapest way to make any polish last a week is a bonding base and a fast-dry top coat — the colour bottle in the middle barely affects longevity.
  • Bottle size barely moves; you will never finish 15 ml. Most people bin a polish for thickening or fashion long before the bottle empties, so pay for the shade and formula, not volume — and add a few drops of thinner when it gels rather than replacing it.
