Run full loads (the biggest lever — the cost is nearly the same whether it's half or full), skip the heated-dry cycle and let dishes air-dry, use eco or auto mode which heats less water, and run it off-peak if your utility charges time-of-use rates. Skipping the pre-rinse under the tap also saves water — modern detergents and machines don't need it. And buy detergent by cost per load, not box price.
