The travel-size eau de toilette looks like the cheaper buy. Divide by how many wearings you actually get out of it, and the math often flips. Eau de parfum costs a little more per ml but is more concentrated, so you use less — which is why the honest comparison is cost per wear, not cost per bottle.

Two things surprise people here. First, the ranges overlap heavily — concentration is not a reliable predictor of per-ml price. Second, in our current sample the EDP median is actually lower than the EDT median, because bottle size and brand swamp the concentration difference. The lesson: don't assume; check the per-ml number.
Why cost per wear is the real metric
- EDP ≈ 15–20% fragrance oil. Stronger projection, typically 6–8+ hours. One or two sprays is plenty.
- EDT ≈ 5–15% fragrance oil. Lighter, fresher, typically 3–5 hours. You reach for three or four sprays, or a re-spray at lunch.
If an EDP needs two sprays and an EDT needs four to get you through the day, the EDT is burning through the bottle twice as fast. A modest per-ml premium on the EDP becomes the cheaper cost per wear.
How to run the math yourself
- Sprays per bottle ≈ bottle ml ÷ 0.1 (a spray is about 0.1 ml).
- Wears per bottle ≈ sprays per bottle ÷ your usual spray count.
- Cost per wear = price ÷ wears per bottle.
A 100 ml EDP at 2 sprays = ~500 wears; a 100 ml EDT at 4 sprays = ~250 wears. Same bottle size, double the wears from the EDP.
The honest verdict
Buy the larger bottle of whichever concentration your skin holds best — per-ml price always drops as bottle size rises — and judge value on cost per wear. Then check the actual per-ml price before you buy, because the small "cheap" bottle usually isn't.
