Big bags of mainstream kibble win on cost per lb. A 30–44 lb bag of a complete, balanced food lands around $0.83–$0.95 per lb — and for a healthy dog, complete-and-balanced is complete-and-balanced. Buying the large bag of the same food you already feed is the simplest saving.
Small bags are a per-lb tax. The identical formula in a 2–5 lb bag can cost 2–3x more per lb than the big bag. Convenient for travel or trials, expensive as a habit.
The honest caveat: air-dried is concentrated
Here is where a naive per-lb ranking can mislead.
