We rank litter by the one thing we can measure: real cost per pound, from live prices. We do not test odour control or dust — those are the claims on the bag, and we're pricing the product, not judging the claim. What we can do is explain how the types genuinely differ, so the per-pound number means something, and then point you at the cheapest option in the type that fits your home.
The three types, and how they really differ

The critical point: cost per pound is not the same as cost per month. Crystal litter is used a spoonful at a time and a bag lasts far longer than the same weight of clay, so its high per-pound price overstates the real running cost. Clay is cheap per pound but you go through more of it. Compare within a type — clay against clay, crystal against crystal — and treat the cross-type per-pound number as a rough signal, not a verdict.
